The bad economy hits home

Follow-up Friday is being pre-empted this week. Instead we bring you breaking news from The Firm. In a nutshell, yours trully has just been told that her position is being eliminated. Yes folks, I've just gotten laid off. I have about two weeks left of paychecks before I have to figure out exactly how my mortage is getting paid next month.

I'm still in a bit of denial and shock and haven't completely processed the magnitude of this situation. It wasn't a completely unexpected turn of events, I knew things were dire at The Firm. But it was certainly a lot sooner than I expected, and I was under the impression we were turning things around. I was OBVIOUSLY mistaken.

I will post more about this at a later time, but I really don't have the state of mind or the energy to do it now...I'm sort of just sitting at my desk, staring at my computer, trying not to throw up right now.

Anyone up for martinis tonight? You'll have to treat though, I have a mortgage to pay and no income.

I wonder how much I can sell my shoe collection for?

Sorry to hear about your job. I'm sure you'll find something else. Things usually get turn around.

Just think, now you don't have to deal with those people anymore. Try to think positively.

That stinks. But, hey, maybe it is a blessing in disguise. You know, time to move on, bigger and better things are in store, out with the old and in with the new.

It will all work out just try not to get too down!

Oh, and yes I am available for martinis and I can treat. Problem...even if I left right now - I don't think I would make it in time. :)

Karina! I'm so sorry. I don't know what to say but I would TOTALLY buy you a martini right now. Oh god.

Oh goodness Karina, I'm so sorry to hear this. I'm sure something even better is coming your way--maybe this is the push you needed to follow a true passion?

Also, remember that NKOTB is back together. If that doesn't make you smile, well....

Hugs (from me) and sloppy kisses (from the girls) :)

Everything happens for a reason.

Let’s go for those martinis right now.
I’ll treat.

Love you.

my heart is breaking for you. we've been there as kids (both of us) and as adults, although usually it was a planned leave for us as adults. i hope you find something very soon. if you need someone to look over your resume, i'd be happy to do so.

Yes, this sucks. So get angry and mad and sad and have a good cry and a good stiff drink and a bad night's sleep, and be like Scarlet O'Hara: "After all, tomorrow is another day!"

I am so sorry this happened. Happened to my husband a few years back 16.5 years at the job and no more.
Get your resume in order, and I wish you the best of luck. Remember I'll support you spiritually as much as I can.

I'm not even entirely sure how to say thank you to each and every one of you. Honestly, I feel ridiculously blessed to have all of you as my "blog buddies". Today was a rough day, and every time I snuck a peak online I had a new comment from somebody that made me smile a bit and realize how many people actually really cared about how I was feeling. THANK YOU all. I will post more about the whole job situation later this weekend, probably on Sunday...but in the meantime, know that I really do thank you or all your kind words.

Karina, so very sorry to hear about this! We just went through this and it's not fun. Even when you know you're going to land on your feet again, it is still so hard.
Hugs.

Ah geesh, that sucks the big one. But I truly believe that all things happen for a reason, and I think in your case, for a good reason. Keep your chin up and think of it as a new door opening!

Blah, blah, blah...I know...hope you got your martinis yesterday!

Dear Karina--

Apart from joining my voice in the virtual drowning of sorrows, I have to say that maybe (despite the economic hardship) you're better off without such a toxic environment. I wish you courage, strength, and humor to bear up something so incredibly life-changing.
